Royal Enfield History of the Current Models
1999 Watsonian Squire took over as official UK importer, the bikes started to be made to UK standards and specification and higher quality controls.
Models Available: 350 Classic 500 Classic
Both being engines made pretty much to the original 1955 pattern, but to modern engineering standards. Featuring Cast Iron pot and heads, white metal bearing in crank, 4 speed gear box with 'neutral finder', traditional Right foot shift, points ignition and kick start (although the 500 did hava an option of Electric start available!!). So essentially you were buying a 'Classic' motorcycle which had been made very recently...All the bonuses of a familiar 'back to biking' style with none of the problems, no oil leaks, not in bits on the garage floor every Sunday etc.
2002
A new 5 speed gear box is developed and given a left foot shift to appeal to a more modern audience, married to the 500 Classic engine the motorcycle became the popular 'bullet 65'
2004
The 500 Classic engine was given to 'AVL' an Australian tuning company who tweaked and updated the beastie, thereby producing the 'Electra Lean Burn'. This was a huge advancement for Royal Enfield... all the bikes now come with electric start as standard, the 5 speed, L/F shift gears, the cylinder head was aluminium and the crank received needle roller bearings, but the most astonishing improvement was the use of disc brakes on the front, now you had a bike that could not only keep up with modern traffic, but it could stop too!!! Gas assisted rear shocks mostly completed the ensemble, and you had a relatively modern bike which kept traditional looks of the post war era.
2008
In response to those lovely law makers in Europe, the whiole concept of the engines currently in production had to be change, and so the Unit Construction, Electronic Fuel Injection Engine was born. A completely new designed engine, however it was still placed in the traditional Electra frame alongside another newly developed chassis for the ' Classic EFI' (on 18" rims)
We sell all models featuring all of the above engines giving a greater choice of both type of motorcycle you require and price point. We deliver anywhere in the UK at cost (either Courier or Fuel) No listings of second hand stock on website due to constantly changing (literally on a day to day basis) however we do have a trade portal through ebay.
